Greetings from Northwestern Dental Group!
Sedation Dentistry - The Ultimate in Dental Comfort!
Sedation dentistry (also known as sleep dentistry)
lets you doze through your dental appointment without
pain or anxiety. You'll be sedated just enough to be
unaware of the treatment. You'll wake up refreshed, with
little or no memory of what was accomplished.
With sedation dentistry, we can do years of dental
treatments in one or two visits. We can replace crowns
or dentures, restore sore gums to good health, whiten
yellow or stained teeth, fix a chipped tooth, and place
dental implants. People with busy schedules can get the
dental care they need quickly and easily.
Who is a candidate for sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is a good option for people with
the following issues:
- Dental anxiety (high fear, traumatic dental
experiences)
- Complex dental problems that would otherwise require
multiple visits
- Difficulty getting numb
- A bad gag reflex
- Very sensitive teeth
- Limited time to complete dental care
- Require dental implants
How does sedation dentistry work?
Sedation can be done either orally or intravenously.
You will not be fully unconscious during your dental
visit, but will be unaware of the dental procedure.
Recovery time will vary depending on the treatment you
need.
When you arrive in our office, you will be made
comfortable and placed on a monitor to watch your vital
signs. One of our team members will always be with you.
Once you are in a deeply relaxed state, we will take
care of your dental needs. Complex dental treatments
that often require six to eight appointments can be done
in as little as one - all while you snooze.
You will have little or no memory of the experience.
You won't remember any sounds or smells. Due to the
sedative effects of the medication, you will need
someone to drive you to our office and home again.
